News has been circulating across media outlets about the imminent opening of this remarkable trail, which spans 24,000 km connecting 15,000 communities throughout Canada.
The Great Trail is an initiative created by countless volunteers, friends, and commercial partners. Entirely funded by donations, it operates on a non-profit basis.
Planning your own Great Trail adventure isn't as daunting as it might initially seem. It largely depends on how you choose to experience it.
Of course, tackling it as a Thru-Hiker, covering the entire trail from start to finish on foot, would certainly be a significant undertaking.
Walking the full 24,000 km requires at least two and a half years. The trail is exceptionally well-maintained with good roads and pathways, and only occasional sections of more challenging, rugged terrain.
Remember that tourists are permitted to stay in Canada for a maximum of 90 days. If you wish to remain longer, you'll need to obtain a visa.

While not our primary focus, the trail is equally viable by bicycle, and travel times are dramatically reduced. With proper training, you can comfortably complete the entire route in six months.
Equipment selection is absolutely crucial. You'll need to carry multiple changes of clothing, particularly given the varying temperatures across different seasons.
You'll go through several pairs of shoes over such a long distance. Naturally, this depends on the type of footwear you choose.
A lightweight trail or trail running shoe typically lasts about 1,000 kilometres, while a sturdy hiking boot endures considerably longer.
However, walking long distances on asphalt in high-cut trekking boots isn't ideal.
Remember that The Great Trail passes through numerous Canadian cities and communities, so there's always the opportunity to purchase supplies you need along the way.
For many, this will remain a dream—perhaps something to experience through photos and videos found online.
I wish everyone the chance to undertake this magnificent journey one day along The Great Trail.
Give yourself an amazing gift! Take the first step on your journey.
