Hanami: Japan's Cherry Blossom Season for Pilgrims
Cherry blossom season is far more than a natural spectacle—it's a sacred pilgrimage moment deeply woven into Japanese spirituality, inviting walkers to witness tradition in bloom.

We're certain that once we explain them to you, you'll never look at a cherry blossom tree quite the same way again.
When we talk about cherry blossoms, we often hear the words Sakura, Hanami, and Yozakura, but what exactly do they mean? First of all, these three words are in Japanese, so without even trying, we've already learned something new.
But let's go into detail.
HANAMI is the Japanese festival celebrating the blooming of cherry trees. The cherry tree is called SAKURA. Between March and April, throughout the country, millions of Japanese people and countless tourists from around the world (including you, if you'd like to join us next year) dedicate time to enjoying the cherry blossoms, perhaps strolling along long tree-lined avenues or setting up picnics with friends and family in the shade of the sakura.

It becomes a moment of connection with loved ones, of mindfulness in an otherwise hectic life, of reconnection with nature and its rhythms, unchanged for centuries.
Equally enchanting is YOZAKURA, the experience of admiring the blooming cherry trees at night, lit only by the warm glow of paper lanterns. Rather romantic, isn't it?!
The flowering sakura, with their infinite shades of pink, are a sight for both the eyes and the spirit! But be warned—like many beautiful things in this world, their beauty is matched only by their fragility and delicacy. A gentle breeze and their petals scatter into the air like a dance, finally settling to the ground to form soft, colourful carpets.
It is precisely because of this natural fragility that in Japanese culture the sakura have become a symbol of life's transience. Just as the flowering trees can lose their petals in a single great storm, so too can life be cut short in an instant.
And so, just as it should be in life, it is right to take time to contemplate the fleeting beauty of the cherry blossoms, to savour as much as possible their reflection on the rivers, the intense colour of their flowers, the serenity that settles in everyone's hearts. At least until the wind carries away the last sakura petal.
