This year, several airlines have decided to update their policies, particularly regarding backpacks as carry-on baggage, power bank usage, and liquid transport.
Changes that can create confusion, but don't worry: here you'll find a clear, up-to-date guide to help you navigate easily.
Carry-on baggage updates: what's changing for Ryanair, easyJet, ITA Airways and other airlines

Ryanair: costs increase for adding baggage after booking
If you fly with Ryanair, it remains free to carry a small carry-on bag with maximum dimensions of 40x20x25 cm.
However, if your baggage exceeds these dimensions, you may face a penalty of up to 70 euros.
If you choose a Regular or Flexi Plus fare, you can also bring a second bag (55x40x20 cm, maximum 10 kg) to store in the overhead bin.
This also includes reserved seating, priority boarding, and free check-in.
Important: adding baggage after booking will cost you more than if you add it at the time of booking.
Ryanair: digital-only boarding passes from 3 November 2025

Another update: starting next winter, Ryanair will abandon paper boarding passes in favour of digital-only versions, available through the myRyanair app.
Be aware, though: at airports like those in Turkey (except Dalaman) and Morocco, or if you're departing from Tirana to the United Kingdom, you'll still need to print your boarding pass.
Using the app will be convenient too in case of disruptions, so you can receive real-time updates on gates, terminals, and alternatives in case of cancellations or delays.
EasyJet: current baggage rules confirmed

easyJet isn't changing its baggage rules for 2025:
- Included for free: just one bag with a maximum of 45x36x20 cm (15 kg), to be stored under the seat.
- To carry a second, larger bag (56x45x25 cm, maximum 15 kg) you need easyJet Plus membership or to purchase an additional option.
Passengers with a Flexi fare or easyJet Plus membership can bring the second bag only if space is available. Otherwise, the bag will be checked in free of charge.
ITA Airways: lighter baggage

ITA Airways maintains the maximum permitted dimensions (55x35x25 cm), but reduces carry-on weight from 10 kg to 8 kg.
You can still carry a personal item like a small backpack or laptop bag (45x36x20 cm).
If the plane is very full, be prepared: your carry-on may be tagged at the gate and checked in free of charge, though this doesn't apply to long-haul flights.
Vueling: watch out for oversized baggage fines

Vueling allows:
- Always free: a small bag of 40x30x20 cm.
- Larger baggage (55x40x20 cm, max 10 kg) only if included in your fare or purchased as an extra.
If the small bag exceeds the stated dimensions, you'll pay between 60 and 75 euros; if the larger bag exceeds limits, you'll pay 110–140 euros per flight.
Volotea: surcharges if baggage is too heavy

With Volotea, passengers on the standard fare can carry only a small bag (40x30x20 cm).
Megavolotea and Megavolotea Plus fares allow a carry-on of 55x40x20 cm up to 10 kg. If you exceed the weight, you'll pay 65 euros extra per item.
Wizz Air: dual baggage only with Wizz Priority

Wizz Air's policy includes:
- Standard fare: a bag of 40x30x20 cm (max 10 kg).
- Wizz Priority: a second bag up to 55x40x23 cm.
Wheels and handles must not add more than 5 cm to the overall dimensions.
General carry-on baggage rules 2025

On almost all airlines, standard dimensions remain valid:
- 55x40x20 cm as the maximum dimension.
- Weight between 7 and 10 kg.
Always check your airline's official website before departure!
Power banks on aircraft: new security restrictions

In recent months, many airlines, particularly Asian carriers, have adopted stricter rules for transporting power banks.
Here are the updates:
- Portable batteries must always be carried in carry-on baggage, never in checked luggage.
- They cannot be used or charged during the flight.
- Some airlines (e.g. Malaysia Airlines, Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Air Asia) require that power bank USB ports be sealed or closed in special bags.
In South Korea, the government has imposed:
- A limit of 5 power banks at 100 Wh per passenger without authorization.
- Devices over 160 Wh are prohibited.
These measures became necessary after several onboard fire incidents, often caused by faulty or poor-quality batteries.
Tip: choose certified, high-quality power banks to travel safely.
Liquids in carry-on: back to the 100 ml limit

From 1 September 2024, even at European airports equipped with next-generation scanners, the traditional limit has been restored:
- Containers of maximum 100 ml each.
- Collected in a 1-litre transparent bag.
The only exceptions are:
- Liquids purchased at duty-free.
- Medical products or baby food, which may exceed 100 ml.
Note: some airports (like Heathrow in London) haven't yet fully replaced old scanners, so you may still need to remove liquids and electronic devices from your bags at security checkpoints.
In summary: how to prepare for summer 2025 air travel
✔️ Check your airline's new rules.
✔️ Pack your baggage carefully, respecting dimensions and weight.
✔️ Carry power banks only in carry-on and don't use them during the flight.
✔️ Respect the 100 ml liquid limit to avoid problems at security.
