Le Chemin du Nord de Santander à Oviedo est un voyage en plein cœur de la beauté et de la splendeur de ses côtes, qui plongent audacieusement dans l'océan en bénéficiant de températures douces mais humides, propices, comme nous l'avons expérimenté, à des pluies même en été. Entre de nombreuses journées de soleil, nous avons en effet rencontré quelques jours de pluie.

Comme dans le tronçon précédent, de Bilbao à Santander, les panoramas sont véritablement enchanteurs. Le point positif, c'est qu'il y a beaucoup moins d'asphalte, donc on marche souvent sur des sentiers et des chemins de terre.

Le terrain est devenu plus vallonné, et on voit beaucoup plus de champs dédiés à l'agriculture.

La beauté de l'océan continue à nous émerveiller, apparaissant subitement derrière le flanc de la colline que nous franchissons.

D'innombrables vergers de pommiers, dont les fruits sont essentiels pour la production du cidre, boisson typique d'une grande partie des Asturies. Le cidre est une boisson alcoolisée au goût très particulier. En arrivant à Oviedo, on comprend à quel point il représente la ville. Il y a même un quartier du centre-ville dédié, avec des bars et des cidreries. Ce qui a retenu notre attention n'est pas tant la boisson elle-même, que la façon étrange de la verser dans le verre, assez théâtrale.

Le Chemin du Nord de Santander à Oviedo est donc une expérience immersive dans des cultures et des traditions captivantes, où le peuple asturien offre un exemple particulier de patriotisme.

Des balcons et des appuis de fenêtres des maisons flottent de nombreux drapeaux bleus, symboles d'une fierté locale qui émane aussi de la couleur bleue de nombreuses habitations.

La variante pour Oviedo et le Chemin Primitif

À Villaviciosa, quelques kilomètres avant Gijón, le Chemin du Nord s'écarte vers l'intérieur et atteint Oviedo en quelques étapes, d'où commence le Chemin Primitif. Comme nous, beaucoup d'autres pèlerins ont décidé de quitter le Nord et d'emprunter le chemin « originel », le Primitif.

Les raisons ont été principalement deux : premièrement, la beauté et l'originalité de ce chemin, décrit par beaucoup comme l'un des plus beaux, loin des côtes et immerge entre collines et forêts ; ensuite, et c'est un besoin que nous avons développé durant notre pèlerinage, échapper à l'affluence de personnes sur le Chemin du Nord, trop nombreuses par rapport aux places d'hébergement et services disponibles.

Ce voyage est ainsi devenu une occasion de découvrir les deux facettes de l'Espagne du nord, océan et montagne.
