Une large part des présences est occupée par les Espagnols, qui avec 39% et près de 16 000 arrivées à Santiago, représentent la première nationalité sur le Chemin. Naturellement, seuls ceux qui ont certifié leur présence à l'Oficina de Acogida al Peregrino entrent dans ces statistiques.
Il va donc de soi que nombreux sont ceux qui ont parcouru le chemin sur l'une de ses sections intermédiaires. C'est en effet une pratique courante en Espagne de diviser le parcours en petits tronçons, souvent de 3 à 4 jours seulement.
Aux côtés des Espagnols, parmi les arrivées à Santiago en septembre 2016, figurent 61% d'étrangers. Les Allemands sont très nombreux, dépassant légèrement les 3 308 Italiens. Le nombre d'Américains est également élevé, représentant près de 10% du total des présences. Les Portugais, Irlandais, Français, Polonais et Anglais complètent le tableau et figurent parmi les 8 premières nationalités étrangères.
Les chemins préférés
Sarria reste la première ville de départ des chemins espagnols. Après Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, León est la troisième ville de départ pour le Chemin Français.
Porto et Tui sont les premiers choix pour débuter le Chemin Portugais, au détriment encore une fois de Lisbonne. Sur le Chemin Anglais, seules 20 personnes sur 1 253 choisissent de ne pas partir de Ferrol.
Bref, les données montrent qu'il y a toujours quelques variations, mais que la tendance générale reste pratiquement inchangée.
Une curiosité sur les arrivées à Santiago en septembre 2016
Parmi les nombreuses données fournies par l'Oficina de Acogida al Peregrino émerge un élément très intéressant concernant les lieux de départ. Il y aurait en effet 400 pèlerins partis de leur pays d'origine. Parmi eux, 5 personnes seraient parties de Rome et 7 de Paris.
Le nombre le plus élevé est représenté par 101 Allemands et 92 Néerlandais. Suivent la France, la Belgique, l'Autriche, la Suisse, la Pologne, le Royaume-Uni et la République Tchèque. 13 de l'Italie. Êtes-vous parmi eux ?!
