Santiago Rejects Lugo Cathedral Credentials
The Pilgrim Reception Office in Santiago de Compostela has officially announced that credentials issued by Lugo Cathedral will no longer be accepted. This decision follows documented failures to meet established standards for pilgrim documentation on the Camino de Santiago.

SANTIAGO REJECTS LUGO'S PILGRIMAGE CREDENTIAL
Yesterday, the Oficina de Acogida al Peregrino in Santiago publicly declared that credentials distributed by Lugo Cathedral will not be accepted. The decision stemmed from the discovery that the design failed to comply with the specifications agreed upon in Santiago last March.

Lugo Cathedral defends its decision by arguing that creating a distinctive credential was motivated by the desire to celebrate the recent UNESCO World Heritage designation of the Camino Primitivo, which passes through Lugo itself, and the Camino del Norte. This year these two Jacobean routes are expecting significant pilgrim traffic, and for those departing from Lugo for the final 100 km, the non-acceptance of the credential could prove problematic.
The Oficina del Peregrino has stated that it would actually prefer a blank sheet of paper bearing the sellos stamps as proof of the pilgrimage over the Lugo credential.
A categorical and unequivocal rejection, then—one that, despite official justifications, we still struggle to fully understand.
