A Guarda – Mougás 19.5km

We set off from A Guarda feeling rather worn out from the previous day's trek. We decide to take advantage of a laundromat near our accommodation. Up to this point, neither the weather—which has been rainy almost constantly—nor the late hours we've been arriving has allowed us to dry our clothes reliably. So we spend 30 minutes washing, another 20 minutes drying, and an hour has flown by.

We set off with the sun already high, already at 9:30. Today the sun is warm and brilliant, with no clouds blocking its rays. The landscape, moreover, is among the most beautiful we've encountered so far. It's striking how dramatically different the ocean appears in the rain compared to when the sun shines. More than a change in landscape, we experience a transformation within ourselves—a shift in our sensations, emotions, and states of mind. The melancholy that enveloped us yesterday, watching the turbulent sea shrouded in mist, transforms today into a sensation of joy and energy.

The path is beautiful, offering ocean views throughout, running parallel to the main road and sometimes crossing it, sometimes hugging it closely. The ocean, shifting between blue and azure, gains even more luminosity and power against the intense green of the meadows and hills. If not for the biting wind whistling in our ears, we'd race impetuously toward the beach and throw ourselves, fully clothed, into the sea's waves!

We arrive at Mougás, a tiny, minuscule village with a bar and a small shop. The location is magnificent, and from the rocks, you can relax while gazing at the sea, contemplate, and even meditate and think about the future. Unfortunately, the albergue is remote from everything: the bar and shop are about 2km away, which feels frustrating when you've already completed a long day's walk and crave rest.

So we do nothing but savour the panorama before us and settle in to work with an ocean view.
