15,103 pilgrims arrived at Santiago during April 2016, showing a decrease compared to the multi-year average.

This downturn can be attributed to an exceptionally busy March, likely due to Holy Week celebrations.

Few walkers under 30 made the journey this month, particularly in contrast to the 20% represented by those over 60—a figure reinforced by a tripling of retirees and a sharp drop in student participants compared to the previous month.

Notably, 25 pilgrims on wheelchairs completed the journey to Santiago—a powerful testament to courage and determination. This figure demonstrates how the Camino continues to become more accessible and responsive to the needs of all pilgrims.

Sarria for the French Way and Porto for the Portuguese Way remain the most popular starting points, followed respectively by Saint Jean Pied de Port and Tui (for the final 100 km). With 462 departures among 470 arrivals, Ferrol continues to be the sole primary starting point for the English Way, further isolating the A Coruña variant.
