Camino de Santiago Last 100km: Self-Guided from Sarria, Tui, Vigo or Ferrol
115 km. Five or six stages of 20-25 km per day. The official minimum distance for the Compostela.
Every year, tens of thousands of people walk the last stretch of the Camino de Santiago. They start from different points, walk at different paces, sleep in very different places. But they all arrive at the same cathedral, and they all leave with the same certificate.
What separates a good experience from a frustrating one is not the route. It is how the trip is built before you leave.
Four starting points. One destination.
From Sarria, the Camino Frances
The most popular starting point. Sarria sits exactly 115 km from Santiago on the Camino Frances, the most traveled pilgrimage route in the world. Some climbing in the early stages, progressively flatter toward the city. Well-marked, mature infrastructure, genuinely social experience. 5-6 stages, 20-25 km per day.
From Tui, the Portuguese Way
The Portuguese Camino enters Spain at Tui, a beautiful border town on the Minho river. Around 115 km to Santiago, same distance as Sarria, completely different landscape. Rolling Galician countryside, granite villages, quieter stages. Fewer pilgrims than the Frances, more room to find your own rhythm. 5-6 stages.
From Vigo, the Portuguese Coastal Way
Around 115 km, with one of the most scenic stretches of the entire network: the crossing from Redondela along the estuary toward Pontevedra. Varied terrain, excellent waymarking, a growing favourite among experienced walkers. 5-6 stages.
From Ferrol, the English Way
The route historically used by medieval pilgrims arriving by sea from Britain and Ireland. Around 115 km to Santiago. Less travelled than the other routes, genuinely quieter, different landscape, very different pilgrim population. For those who want the Compostela without the crowds. 5-6 stages.
No single route is objectively better. The right one depends on your dates, interests, and the kind of walking you are looking for. That is the first conversation we have.
What Wayure organizes: from the flight to the Compostela
Most operators organize the walk. Wayure organizes the journey.
That means we can handle everything: flights, arrival and departure transfers, the walk itself, experiences along the way, and the return home. One point of contact. Nothing left to you to coordinate.
Flights. We help with flight options from your departure city, timed correctly against your walking stages and return needs.
Arrival and departure transfers. Airport to starting town, final stage to Santiago airport, coordinated as part of the overall itinerary.
The walk, built around you. Accommodations booked and confirmed before you leave, luggage transfer organized from day one, complete stage-by-stage documentation, GPS tracks, and a direct support line throughout.
Experiences along the way. A wine tasting in Ribeiro country. A visit to the Romanesque churches of Portomarin. An evening in the old quarter of Pontevedra. We can add context and texture to the walking stages for those who want more than the path itself.
Santiago. Many walkers extend by one or two days in the city: the cathedral, the Pilgrim Mass, the old town. We build this in if you want it.
Three ways to experience the Camino
Wayure organizes every trip with the same method: custom route design, careful accommodation selection, full logistical support, personal assistance before and during the journey. That does not change.
What changes is the context in which you live the experience.
Essence, the direct way
Shared accommodation, dormitory rooms, communal spaces. Comfort stripped to what is necessary. Essence is for walkers who put the experience before the rest: the Camino in its most direct form, with other pilgrims around every evening.
Minimal, private, functional, no frills
Private rooms in simple, functional properties. Your own space, without excess. For those who want privacy without looking for design or luxury. Nothing superfluous. Everything needed to sleep well and leave refreshed.
Serenity, the Camino with peace of mind
First-choice properties, carefully selected environments, superior comfort. For those who want to walk without worrying about anything else. The Camino stays central. The rest is taken care of.
These are not price categories. They are three different ways of living the same experience.
When to go
April and May are the best months for the Sarria and Tui routes. Mild temperatures, green Galicia, manageable crowds.
June through August brings more heat and significantly more pilgrims on the Sarria route. The Portuguese Way and English Way are notably quieter during this period.
September and October are increasingly preferred by experienced walkers. Fewer pilgrims than summer, good weather, beautiful autumn light over the Galician countryside.
November through March is quiet on all routes. Some facilities close. For those who want solitude and a completely different atmosphere, winter is worth considering.
Frequently asked questions
How many km per day on the last 100km of the Camino?
With Wayure the stages are built over 5-6 days, averaging 20-25 km per day. An easier version with shorter stages spread over more days is also available from Sarria.
Do I need to train before the Camino?
A reasonable level of fitness is sufficient. The single biggest practical difference is luggage transfer: walking 25 km with a 3 kg daypack is a completely different experience from carrying 10 kg.
What is included in the price?
Selected and pre-booked accommodations, luggage transfer where applicable, complete stage-by-stage documentation, GPS tracks and support throughout. Flights are not included in the base price but Wayure can handle them on request.
Can I get the Compostela from all four starting points?
Yes. All four starting points are at sufficient distance to qualify for the Compostela, provided the required stamps are collected along the way.
Does Wayure organize flights too?
Yes. We can handle the entire journey: flights, transfers, the walk, experiences along the route, and the return home. One single point of contact for everything.
