12 Songs to Awaken Your Wanderer's Spirit

The desire to see the world, the Wanderlust, has always been a source of inspiration for artists. And it's not just the desire to travel, but also the desire to improve, to give a positive turn to our lives, to start again from scratch, to become better.

And who doesn't feel happy listening to a good playlist that encourages us to change while we're cleaning the house, cooking or showering?

Music has the power to make us feel different, to give us the push that sometimes we lack to face that task or challenge that's been buzzing in our heads for a few days.

So for those who need an energy boost, we remind you that we have a playlist on Spotify with these tracks and many others to inspire you to get out and travel.

And taking advantage of the approaching good weather, we wanted to pair our walking routes with a song, so as to encourage you to walk with us 😉

Let's begin!

1- “Come Fly With Me” by Frank Sinatra

A classic among songs that inspire you to leave and travel and which couldn't be missing from our special list of songs to awaken our travelling spirit.

Come fly with me, let’s fly, we’ll fly / Come fly with me, let's go flying

Pack up, let’s fly away / Pack your bags and let's fly away

We hope so, Frank, we hope so.

2- “Born To Be Wild” – Steppenwolf

It's impossible to listen to this song and stay still. Something in John Kay's voice pushes us to become a little crazy and wild.

Looking for adventure / Looking for adventure

in whatever comes our way / In whatever comes our way

The members of Steppenwolf knew what they were talking about when they wrote it!

And nothing better to become Wild (like Oscar Wilde, who was Irish) than actually walking our trails through Ireland 🙂

3- “Sweet Home Alabama” – Lynyrd Skynyrd

Who doesn't recognize those distinctive guitar chords? I bet you're listening to it in your head right now.

Sweet home, Alabama / Sweet home, Alabama

Where the skies are so blue / Where the skies are so blue

I've never been to Alabama, but every time I listen to this song I'm filled with a patriotic feeling.

4- “On The Road Again” – Willie Nelson

“On the Road Again” is one of those songs that cannot be missing from any list of tracks to awaken our travelling spirit. Willie Nelson's voice as he tells us about all those things he hasn't done and the places and trips he hasn't taken inevitably touches our heart... there are so many!

Goin’ places that I’ve never been / Going to places where I've never been

Seein’ things that I may never see again / Seeing things I may never see again

Nothing like recommending our walking routes in Italy to create a deep feeling of longing.

5- “Dog Days Are Over” – Florence and the Machine

Florence Welch has always been a free spirit and with this song she encourages us to break free from all sadness and negative things and proclaim that finally the dark days are over!

Leave all your love and your longing behind / Leave all your love and longing behind

You can’t carry it with you if you want to survive / You can't carry it with you if you want to survive

A song to break free and dance barefoot around your home, banishing all the troubles.

6 – “Ticket to Ride” – The Beatles

Actually this Beatles song isn't really about travelling, but about a girl who leaves her boyfriend to live her life, but we include it in the list because the music of Early Beatles had this fun energy that invited you to be happy and enjoy life a little.

She’s got a ticket to ride / She's got a ticket to ride

She’s got a ticket to ride, but she don’t care / She's got a ticket to ride, but she doesn't care

I don't know why, but I connect it to the Camino de Cavalls, in Minorca. A magical journey where you can lose yourself without anything else mattering.

7- “Roam” – B52's

This song speaks of the adventurous spirit and the freedom to travel, explore new places and have the opportunity to live exciting experiences. In short, what all adventurers desire!

Roam if you want to / Roam if you want to

Roam around the world / Roam around the world

Of course we do, B52's, that's the spirit! A song that cannot be missing from our list of tracks to awaken our travelling spirit.

8- “Love my life” – Robbie Williams

Robbie Williams has always navigated between the intense and the fun and sometimes he composes gems like this one where he says he loves his life and that everything is wonderful. Well, of course, Rob! Nothing like singing it at the top of your lungs to reaffirm it.

I love my life / I love my life

I am wonderful / I am wonderful

I am magical / I am magical

I am me / I am me

This song suggests to me a walking tour through Portugal. It must be Lisbon or the sea, which give me a feeling of freedom!

9- “Don’t Stop Me Now” – Queen

Little can be said about Queen that hasn't already been said. An anthem to energy and the desire to conquer the world! Let no one stop you!

I’m burnin’ through the sky, yeah / I'm burning through the sky, yeah

that’s why they call me Mister Fahrenheit / that's why they call me Mister Fahrenheit

If you walk the Way of Saint James you will feel the unstoppable energy that Freddie talks about, guaranteed!

10- “Island In The Sun” – Weezer

Not all songs need to have the energy of Freddie Mercury. Sometimes the simplest ones transport us to a peaceful world, to our happy place with just a few chords. This is the case with this Weezer song.

On an island in the sun / On an island in the sun

We’ll be playing and having fun / We'll be playing and having fun

And we believe that our walking tour in Malta will give you exactly that feeling of peace and completeness (and it's also an island).

11- “Viva La Vida” – Coldplay

Sometimes songs aren't so much about the lyrics, but about the music itself. It's the music that drives us to do things, even if we don't quite understand what they're about. The case of Coldplay's “Viva la Vida” is an example, since the song speaks of a king's loss of power who once ruled the world and is now nothing... but what drives us in this song?

I used to rule the world / I used to rule the world

Seas would rise when I gave the word / Seas would rise when I gave the word

And here, when we talk about kings, we think of France and so we recommend one of our walking tours in magical France.

12- “Buon Viaggio” – Cesare Cremonini

We couldn't close this list of songs to awaken our travelling spirit without the ultimate Italian anthem “Buon viaggio”. Cesare Cremonini and we wish you a good journey and we hope we've inspired your day a little with all these songs to dance to, enjoy and most of all to make you want to travel with us!

Buon viaggio / Whether it's an outbound or return journey
